WHAT REALLY HAPPENED BETWEEN MACUBA WFC AND APR WFC, AND WHAT WERE THE CONSEQUENCES?
On January 18, 2026, the women’s first division league resumed with the return phase, during which Macuba WFC hosted APR WFC in a highly anticipated match. The game ended with APR WFC winning 1–0, a victory that earned them three crucial points.
Although the match ended in a win for APR WFC, it will not be remembered only for the result, as it was also marked by tension and inappropriate behavior observed among different participants.
During this match, there were threats and disturbances, evident in the behavior of players, team officials, and fans. These incidents affected the overall security of the match, leading to intervention by security forces.
In particular, it was observed that some staff members and supporters of APR WFC displayed behavior that did not comply with the laws governing football. Some of their actions created a hostile atmosphere and compromised safety, to the extent that the Rwanda National Police had to intervene to restore order.
Furthermore, a member of APR WFC’s staff named NDORI exhibited unacceptable behavior by using insulting and disrespectful language toward match officials. This conduct was identified as a violation of the principles and regulations governing conduct in women’s football.
All these incidents led to disciplinary decisions and sanctions aimed at:
Restoring good conduct,
Ensuring compliance with competition regulations,
Protecting the dignity and positive image of women’s football.
Players, team officials, and supporters are reminded of their responsibility to behave appropriately, respect the rules and match officials, and avoid any conduct that may undermine safety and professionalism in the game.
The cooperation of all stakeholders is required to ensure that women’s football continues to be played in peace, dignity, and a professional spirit, allowing the league to remain a platform for developing talent and advancing sports development in the country.
