RAYON SPORTS WFC DEFEATS KAMONYI WFC IN A TOUGHLY CONTESTED MATCH ON MATCHDAY 15 OF THE WOMEN’S LEAGUE
A match marked by intensity and exceptional fighting spirit
On Matchday 15 of the Rwanda Women’s First Division Football League, Rayon Sports Women Football Club hosted Kamonyi WFC in a highly anticipated encounter, characterized by strong competition, great intensity, and remarkable fighting spirit from both sides. The match ended with Rayon Sports WFC securing a 1–0 victory over Kamonyi WFC, in a game that clearly demonstrated the continued growth and development of women’s football in Rwanda.
The first half was dominated by a fierce battle between the two teams. Kamonyi WFC entered the match determined to avoid dropping points, displaying a well-organized attack and a solid defensive structure. Rayon Sports WFC, on the other hand, remained composed and persistent, constantly searching for an opening but struggling to break through Kamonyi WFC’s defensive line.
Despite several attacking attempts from both teams, the opening 45 minutes ended goalless, leaving fans eager and curious about what the second half would bring.
The second half began with Rayon Sports WFC showing greater attacking intent, putting heavy pressure on Kamonyi WFC’s goal. Their efforts paid off in the 50th minute when a Rayon Sports WFC player was fouled inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award a clear penalty.
Odette Coralie Ngwema stepped up to take the penalty and calmly converted it, sending the ball into the back of the net to score the only goal of the match for Rayon Sports WFC. The goal sparked celebrations among the numerous Rayon Sports WFC supporters in attendance, who expressed great joy and renewed confidence in their team.
After conceding the goal, Kamonyi WFC intensified their attacking efforts in search of an equalizer. However, the experience and composure of Rayon Sports WFC’s defense proved decisive, as they successfully protected their lead until the final whistle.
Rayon Sports WFC fans expressed great satisfaction with the performance, praising the players for their determination, teamwork, and commitment. Many noted that despite the narrow scoreline, the match was entertaining and showcased high levels of discipline, resilience, and professionalism in women’s football.
This victory earned Rayon Sports WFC crucial points in their pursuit of a strong position in the league standings and further confirmed the team’s positive form in the second half of the season.
