Rwanda Volleyball Set Sights on Africa’s Podium
Rwanda’s Women’s National Volleyball Team has received a strong message of encouragement and determination after returning from the 2026 CAVB Africa Women’s Nations Championship, where they finished in fourth place.
The team was welcomed by Rwanda’s Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, who praised the players for their performance while making it clear that the journey does not end with fourth place.
Although winning the trophy was Rwanda’s main target, finishing among the top four teams in Africa was described as a result worth appreciating. However, the message from the Minister was clear: the next mission is to climb even higher and fight for a place on the podium.
“Thank you for your performance. We know that winning the trophy was our main target, but finishing fourth in Africa is also a result we appreciate. We want to see you on the podium at the next edition of the CAVB Africa Championship because you have that capability,” she said.
The Battle for the Top Continues
With other African teams already preparing for future competitions, Rwanda has been urged not to slow down. The Minister emphasized that the federation, coaching staff and players must work together to help the national team reach another level.
She stressed that reaching the podium is possible and that everyone involved has a responsibility to contribute to that ambition.
“Yes, we all know that it is a journey, and other teams are also preparing. But it is our responsibility to work together with you, the federation and the head coach to help you reach that level. We know that it is possible,” she added.
These words have raised the expectations surrounding the national team, with the fourth-place finish now serving as a stepping stone toward an even bigger target.
“Don’t Relax!”
The players were encouraged to return to their respective clubs, but they were also warned not to become comfortable after their recent achievement.
Instead, they were urged to restart their energy, continue working hard and remain focused on improving their performance.
The Ministry also plans to work closely with the Rwanda Volleyball Federation to ensure that the national team players have enough opportunities to train and work together with the head coach.
According to the Minister, such sessions could be organized every few weeks or every month, depending on the programme agreed upon with the federation.
The aim is to ensure that when the national team reunites for major competitions, the players are better prepared, more coordinated and ready to compete at the highest level.
Young Talents Cannot Be Left Behind
Another important message was the need to invest in Rwanda’s young volleyball talents.
The Minister emphasized that the country must continue identifying and developing young players so that they can become part of the national team’s future.
This means Rwanda’s Volleyball ambitions are not limited to the current generation. The country wants to build a strong pipeline of young talent capable of carrying the national team forward in the years to come.
The fourth-place finish at the 2026 CAVB Africa Women’s Nations Championship may therefore be just one chapter in a much bigger story.
The message is loud and clear: Rwanda is not satisfied with simply being among Africa’s best four. The next challenge is to push harder, work smarter and fight for a place on the podium.
The journey continues, and the pressure is rising. With stronger preparation, closer cooperation between the federation and coaching staff, and continued development of young talents, Rwanda’s women’s national volleyball team will be looking to turn its fourth-place finish into an even bigger achievement in the future.
